The industry’s concerns on the serious imperfections of the Carbon Intensity Index (CII) measure are the reason why an agreement to keep the measure under review until 2026 was reached at the IMO.
The UGS fully supports the goal of the review which is to ensure that CII accurately reflects the operational energy efficiency of ships, effectively incentivises the adoption of energy efficiency measures and strategies in shipping operations and ensures that a level playing field is provided across the different segments.
The revised CII framework will need to accurately reflect the operational energy efficiency of ships.
