On-going issues of the EU “Fit-for-55” Package

EU shipping has a strategic role to play in achieving the objectives of the “Fit-for-55” package and enabling the green transition through the transportation of cleaner fuels. At the same time, it is called to ensure EU’s continuous energy supply and food security.

Nevertheless, regional measures not only risk undermining the sustainability of EU shipping and its strategic role, but also threaten its competitiveness. These risks arise because the “Fit-for-55” package does not properly consider the international character and diversity of shipping operations.
